Big Bang, Tohoshinki win at MTV World Stage Video Music Awards Japan
Korean boy bands Big Bang and Tohoshinki (aka TVXQ) won big at MTV World Stage Video Music Awards Japan, sweeping three awards in the ceremony held at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo on May 29.
Big Bang won two awards: Best New Artist Video for for “Gara Gara Go” and Best Pop Video for “Koe wo Kikasete (Let Me Hear Your Voice).”
In the Best New Artist Video, Big Bang edged out Taylor Swift, Mao Abe, Keri Hilson, and The Telephones.
The idol group also beat Leona Lewis, Ikimono Gakari, P!NK, and Koda Kumi in the Best Pop Video category.
In addition, Japanese pop group w-inds, who worked with Big Bang leader G-Dragon, won the Best Collaboration Video.
On the other hand, Tohoshinki won the Best Group Video for “Share the World.” However, the boy band didn’t attend the ceremony owing to the ongoing legal case with SM Entertainment.
The K-pop boy band has been sweeping Japan’s Oricon charts this year, defeating the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Backstreet Boys, Remioromen and Tokyo Jihen.
Big Bang’s sister group 2NE1 also attended the ceremony.
