Female idol group 2NE1 has been invited to the MTV World Stage Video Music Awards Japan (WS WMAJ), according to MTV Korea on Wednesday. The girls were chosen as special guest stars at the WS WMAJ, which will be held at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Japan on May 29. Fifteen other celebrities including Japanese group ICONIQ, model Miho Tanaka, singer Fukuhara Miho, boxer Masato and singer Vanness will also attend the event. American pop singer Ke$ha, Somali-Canadian musician K’Naan and Japanese stars AI, Bradberry Orchestra and Miliyah Kato have been set to take the stage to give individual performances. Meanwhile, voting which will determining the winners for various awards at the event are under way on MTV Japan's official website till May 9. K-pop idol group Big Bang will be competing under the category for Best New Artist Video for their song "ガラガラ GO!! (GARAGARAGO!!)" and Best Pop Video with their "Let Me Hear Your Voice," while TVXQ's video "Share The World" has been nominated for Best Group Video. Other noteworthy mentions include Lady Gaga with five nominations, while Jay-Z, Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys, Amuro Namie have scored three nominations each. Four-member group 2NE1 made their first appearance with Big Bang for the LG cellular phone commercial on March 2009. They released their first single "Fire" in May 2009 and have since released several hits including "Lollipop," "I Don't Care" and recently "Try To Follow Me."

Korean boy bands Big Bang and Tohoshinki (aka TVXQ) won big at MTV World Stage Video Music Awards Japan, sweeping three awards in the ceremony held at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo on May 29. Big Bang won two awards: Best New Artist Video for for “Gara Gara Go” and Best Pop Video for “Koe wo Kikasete (Let Me Hear Your Voice).” In the Best New Artist Video, Big Bang edged out Taylor Swift, Mao Abe, Keri Hilson, and The Telephones. The idol group also beat Leona Lewis, Ikimono Gakari, P!NK, and Koda Kumi in the Best Pop Video category. In addition, Japanese pop group w-inds, who worked with Big Bang leader G-Dragon, won the Best Collaboration Video. On the other hand, Tohoshinki won the Best Group Video for “Share the World.” However, the boy band didn’t attend the ceremony owing to the ongoing legal case with SM Entertainment. The K-pop boy band has been sweeping Japan’s Oricon charts this year, defeating the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Backstreet Boys, Remioromen and Tokyo Jihen. Big Bang’s sister group 2NE1 also attended the ceremony.

Korean idol group Big Bang scored a triple win at the MTV World Stage Video Music Awards Japan over the weekend, according to their agency YG Entertainment. YG announced through a press release Saturday that the five-member boy band picked up trophies for Best New Artist Video for "Gara Gara Go!!", their second single in Japan, and Best Pop Video for third single "Koe o Kikasete" at the award ceremony, held at Tokyo's Yoyogi National Stadium on Saturday. The group's leader G-Dragon also collected Best Collaboration Video for "Rain Is Fallin'," a single by Japanese pop group W-inds which featured the Korean pop idol. Big Bang, who made their debut in the Japanese pop market last June, has now swept the country's music events as they won Best New Artist at Japan Yusen Awards and Japan Record Awards last year. Last week, the boy band also made history as they were announced the first Korean dance group to be featured on the main stage at Japan's Summer Sonic Festival 2010, to be held in Tokyo and Osaka on August 7 and 8. Big Bang, discovered and trained by major talent agency YG Entertainment, is composed of G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri. Since their 2006 debut with the single "Bigbang," they have been considered huge cultural icons for Korea's younger generation in not only in music but also fashion. The boys will be staying in Japan to promote their fourth single "Tell Me Goodbye," which will be released on June 9.
