Star Composer Kim Do hoon Boycotted for Plagiarism
Netizens are starting a petition to ban popular Kpop composer Kim Do Hoon. Many of you might be thinking who the heck is Kim Do Hoon? You might not know his name, but you all definitely know ‘his’ (I use that term loosely based on the circumstances) songs. Kim Do Hoon is the composer or co-composer of SG Wannabe’s “Sin & Punishment,” “8282″ by Davichi, Gavy NJ’s “Can You Laugh With Tears,” Lee Seung Gi’s “Let’s Break Up,” and C.N. Blue’s “I’m a Loner” all songs that have been accused of plagiarism.
The most recent plagiarism controversy surrounds Kim Jong Kook’s song ”Can’t Forget” another of Kim Do Hoon’s ‘compositions’ off of his new album Eleventh Story. Critics say that Jong Kook’s song sounds exactly like Usher’s “Love in the Club.” I have to say our SB readers are among the most savvy out there in Kpop land. When I first wrote of Jong Kook’s song back on January 27th, reader BeSerious called it. Check out both songs for yourself.
This is really disappointing, “Can’t Forget” was one of my favorite songs off of Jong Kook’s album and the plagiarism accusations really affect the creditability of the song and the singer themselves, even when they weren’t the one that actually committed the crime. I really don’t understand why all the Korean Entertainment companies haven’t stopped using this composer already, look at his record. It’s kind of like they’re all hoping no one will notice the similarities. In this day and age of technology with the internet and fans’ access to music sites and YouTube, music fans all over the world are just too astute to try and fool them. These companies should seriously consider hiring some of these music savvy netizens to screen ‘new’ songs. I know there’s money involved, but I just don’t understand why the Korean Entertainment companies don’t get permission to ’sample’ the songs.
