Korean singer Jang Woo-hyuk has officially resumed his activities in China, according to his agency on Thursday. Jang flew into China on Wednesday, starting by appearing as a guest on Chinese variety program "Be Ready Anytime" to meet his fans and promote his upcoming concert tour in the country. The star also performed two of his songs from his Korean album and played a ping-pong match against Wang Hao, the coach of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Chinese national ping-pong team. Jang is expected to pursue a busy schedule in China thereafter, including making an appearance at the opening ceremony of the BOAO International Tourism Forum and beginning preparations for his concerts. He had signed with major Chinese entertainment firm Huayi Brothers Media Group last month, shortly after completing his two-year mandatory military service. Jang has a huge fan base in China; in 2006, he topped an online poll conducted by KBS World and China’s major portal site sina.com in four categories including most popular singer and most popular song. He also attended the prestigious Beijing Pop Music Awards last month, becoming the first and only Korean artist to receive an invitation to the annual event. Jang, 32, made his debut in the now-disbanded boy band H.O.T in 1996. They were one of the hottest bands in Korea from the mid to late 90s. He returned to the music scene as a member of project trio JTL in 2002 and began his solo career in 2005 through which he made a splash into the Asian market.

Korean singer Jang Woo-hyuk has teamed with Hong Kong actress Karen Mok for a music drama that will be shown at his upcoming tour concerts in China, according to his agency on Tuesday. Photographs revealed by Jang's agency showed Jang and Mok shooting scenes for the video which does not contain any dialogue but intense action sequences to portray the story of the chance encounter of the two. This will be the second time Jang and Mok are meeting -- they both attended the Beijing Pop Music Awards last year but it is the first time they are working together. Mok, a singer and actress who made her debut in 1993, is well known for her role in "Shaolin Soccer" and highest-grossing Hong Kong pic “Fallen Angels.” She has also released numerous albums and is one of the first Asians to take the lead role in Broadway musical “RENT.” Jang made his debut in 1996 through the now-disbanded boy band H.O.T, one of the hottest bands in town during the mid to late 1990s, and embarked on a solo career in 2005. Singer Jang Woo Hyuk has given a performance to celebrate the opening of “The First World Tourism Expo” held in the city of Sanya in Hainan, China on March 20. At the opening ceremony of the Expo, many important representatives of ministerial caliber from all over the world, including Chinese government officials and the former US secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, attended. Jang Woo Hyuk showed off flashy dance moves during the performance that was broadcast live, and many Chinese stars such as Liming, Cai Yilin, and Sun Nan and a Danish band, Michael Learns to Rock, also performed together on the same stage. Before this performance, Jang Woo Hyuk also participated in recording the variety program “Be Ready Anytime” on the Jiangsu Satellite TV channel on March 17, and the program will be broadcast all over China. Jang received the distinguished award at the CMA, which took place at the International Tennis Center located in China's Sichuan region. Former Korean boy band member Jang Woo-hyuk will be holding a solo China concert in 3-D on May 8, according to his agency in China Huayi Brothers on Thursday. According to a press release from Huayi Brothers, "Jang's solo concert titled 'The Sun Does Not Set' will be viewed in 3-D. We are using state-of-the-art 3-D technology that will surpass the reality and imagination of the audience." The agency also revealed a 3-D poster for the upcoming show which featured the singer in five different poses. Jang's solo concert will be held early next month at the Chinese Wukesong Basketball Gymnasium.
