The province today announced 55 more nursing jobs for Waterloo Region.

These new positions are among the 900 nursing jobs that were created by the provincial government last week.

Of the 55 nurses provided through the region’s Local Health Integration Network, three surgical first-assist nurses will be added to St. Mary’s Hospital to expand the support they provide to more operating rooms.

The placement of the other positions, including nurses for long-term care homes, schools and hospitals, is being determined by the health network.

Belgium has a lot vacant nursing jobs, and nurses trained in Spain are moving to Flanders to fill vacant posts. A handful will soon complete Flemish language courses in Madrid before moving to Flanders near the end of the year, reports the De Morgen newspaper.
